Building stronger, more diverse teams

As Nova Scotia’s population becomes increasingly diverse, accessible and equitable health care is a must.

The QEII Foundation Diversity in Health Care Bursary program provides financial support to students from underserved and underrepresented communities in their pursuit of post-secondary education in a healthcare profession, with the goal of creating a more diverse and inclusive healthcare system that is reflective of Nova Scotian communities.

The bursaries support post-secondary students from a variety of healthcare programs at all levels of education, from community college to PhD programs, all with one thing in common — a passion for helping others.

Meet Zeina Atwi, a 2018 bursary recipient

Zeina Atwi is a respiratory therapist at the QEII. In this video, filmed during her final year in school, Zeina explains how receiving a bursary sparked a personal interest in how diversity impacts the healthcare journey.

Zeina brings a sense of calm to critical situations by speaking Arabic – a first language she shares with many QEII patients and families.
