The QEII is a national leader and centre of excellence in personalized cancer care. This $6.2-million project will equip our experts with the precision oncology tools they need to deliver some of the country’s most leading-edge cancer care available.

WHY DONORS ARE NEEDED

What if a simple blood test after your cancer surgery could detect if you’re truly cancer free, earlier than any other diagnostic test or scan? What if we could spare patients from unnecessary treatments, like chemotherapy, if their genetics show their cancer is gone or that it won’t respond? What if we could identify the patients who are most likely to benefit from a stem cell transplant faster, accelerating this life-saving treatment for those in need?

With the support of QEII Foundation donors and our BMO Ride for Cancer community, the QEII Health Sciences Centre will be one of few Canadian health centres offering the most advanced precision oncology treatment methods at scale – impacting patients across Atlantic Canada.

Unlike traditional methods that use a generic one-size-fits-all approach, precision oncology customizes treatment based on the individual genetic makeup and molecular profile of each patient’s cancer. The result? More effective treatments, fewer side effects, earlier detection of cancer recurrence, and, in some cases, a brighter future and better survival rates for patients.

ABOUT OUR PRECISION ONCOLOGY PROJECT

Our Precision Oncology project includes funding three groundbreaking diagnostic tools: Liquid Biopsy, Comprehensive Genomic Profiling, and Minimal Residual Disease Monitoring.

Unlike other centres across Canada, this program will not be limited to a clinical trial or research program; it will be integrated into patients’ care and treatment journeys across Nova Scotia and beyond. This $6.2-million project is not just about funding and deploying new technology — it is completely changing cancer patient screening, treatment and care across the province.
