Thanks to donor support, the QEII is home to Canada’s first spinal robot for patient care.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
HUMAN CONTROLLED. ROBOT ASSISTED. ENTIRELY DONOR FUNDED.
The QEII Health Sciences Centre is home to the first spinal surgery robot of its kind in Atlantic Canada, called MAZOR™ X Stealth Edition. In August 2022, the QEII became the first hospital in Canada to perform the first patient procedure using the robot.
This $3-million project was made possible by QEII Foundation donors, including a $1-million gift by Irving Shipbuilding Inc. to help fund the innovative technology and its accompanying research.
Donor generosity allows our partners at Nova Scotia Health and the QEII Health Sciences Centre to accelerate the purchase of the most advanced technology the market has to offer – like the MAZOR™ X Stealth Edition – and introduce it into clinical care much quicker. It’s a prime example of our $100-million We Are campaign at work and the role donors play in revolutionizing health care.
