DA VINCI XI ROBOT
Human controlled. Robot assisted. Donor funded.
As part of our Centre of Excellence in Robotics project, we’re on a mission to fund a second da Vinci robot for the QEII — transforming surgical care and increasing critical access for cancer patients.
FUNDING THE QEII'S NEWEST CANCER-FIGHTING ROBOT
Once considered futuristic, surgical robotics are now reshaping modern health care — and donor generosity has positioned the QEII at the forefront of this transformation. In 2019, QEII Foundation donors brought Atlantic Canada its first surgical robot, the da Vinci X, enabling advanced, robot-assisted procedures for patients facing complex cancers.
With another system soon to be donor-funded, the QEII will soon stand among a small group of Canadian hospitals home to seven surgical robots across multiple specialties — six of them made possible through QEII Foundation donor support.
This $3.8-million project to fund the QEII's next surgical robot for cancer surgeries — the da Vinci Xi — will expand capacity, enhance precision and propel the QEII toward establishing Canada’s first Centre of Excellence in Robotics, ensuring more patients benefit from leading-edge care, closer to home.
What donors will make possible.
This project is so much more than expanding the QEII’s fleet of surgical robots. Here’s some of the key benefits when you support this project:

Increase the number of robot-assisted surgeries performed each week — ensuring faster treatment access and improving wait times.

Offer shorter hospital stays, less pain, less blood loss, fewer post-operative complications, less risk of infection and reduced scarring.
Recruit and retain medicine’s best surgeons and healthcare teams.

Enable the QEII to offer robot-assisted thoracic surgeries, treat more gynaecologic cancers and precancerous conditions, and expand to other care areas of greatest need.

Enable faster healing, recovery times and a quicker return to work and day-to-day activities.
