State-of-the-art cath lab treats first patients, reduces wait times

Funded by a community of donors, the QEII’s Cardiac Cath Lab D treated its first patients on December 19, 2017.

“In its lifetime, the new Cardiac Cath Lab D will treat about 25,000 patients and save many lives,” says Dr. Hussein Beydoun, cath lab director at the QEII.

Cardiac Cath Lab D was closed in Fall 2016 when its aging equipment became unserviceable – and is one of four cath labs in the QEII’s newly named Joseph Shannon Family Cardiac Catheterization Suite.

Approximately 5,800 patients a year, including those from New Brunswick and P.E.I., have a procedure in the Joseph Shannon Family Cardiac Catheterization Suite. The unparalleled imaging quality and capability of Cardiac Cath Lab D will improve patient outcomes.

Donors like you are ensuring the QEII’s heart health teams can deliver the best care and highest-level diagnostic imaging during procedures like angiograms, angioplasties and pacemaker implantations.
