In some moments, the small things are actually the big things.
QEII Foundation donors continue to fund items that improve the hospital experience for patients and families at the QEII.
Comfort & Care
A simple comfort item goes a long way.
Comfort & Care Grants are intended for projects that would not typically receive funding from the health centre’s operating or capital budgets. Grants are awarded to projects that demonstrate direct benefit to patients and/or their families.
donor impact
Improved hospital experience.
To date, our donors have invested more than $1.3 million for comfort items like:
Exercise bikes for dialysis patients
Environmental control units (ECUs) for patients with limited mobility
Private rooms for families in crisis
Blanket warmers to ease the pain of treatment
Therapy lamps for patients with anxiety
Bedside furniture for families
Education material for patients and caregivers
Patient Story
Donor support changes lives...
Patients like Loretta Joyce are falling asleep under the stars - inside the walls of the QEII.
Because of QEII Foundation donors, who care about the extra patient comforts, Loretta is able to enjoy a starlight projector, which helps her relax at night. "If I look at it long enough, it puts me to sleep," she says.
Shelley Sandblom, a registered nurse at the QEII's Palliative Care Unit explains,
"Most patients want the lights in their room every night because it helps them sleep and reduces their anxiety," she says.
This little machine has a big impact on patient well-being and Shelley is in the beginning stages of launching a research project that explores the relationship between these devices and anxiety.
This is just one example of the magic that QEII Foundation donors make possible.
