Improving the hospital experience for patients and families at the QEII.

WHY YOU’RE NEEDED

TANGIBLE ENHANCEMENTS, ENTIRELY DONOR-FUNDED

QEII Foundation Comfort & Care grants are intended for projects that would not typically receive funding from the health centre’s operating or capital budgets. Frontline healthcare teams apply for grants of up to $5,000 – awarded to projects that demonstrate direct and immediate benefit to patients and/or their families.

Every year, QEII Foundation donors ensure $100,000 in Comfort & Care grants can be awarded to QEII departments – funding everything from stationary bikes for dialysis patients to starlight projectors that simulate the night sky around a hospital bed.

Alongside thousands of other supporters, your donation will help fuel this year's Comfort & Care grants; enabling the purchase of small comforts that can have an extraordinary impact and that otherwise wouldn't be available to patients, families and our healthcare teams.

Firsthand patient impact

In 2024, the Cardiology Inpatient Unit at the QEII was able to purchase a blanket warmer thanks to donor funds through the Comfort & Care grant.

Oftentimes our patients come from the emergency department, and they're feeling unwell, or they are arriving in the middle of the night, or they've just had a procedure, and they're shivering and shaky. Giving them a warm blanket is a source of comfort when they're at their most vulnerable. Patients will often say, ‘This is just what I needed.’

These little things are what make the difference as to how somebody perceives their stay in hospital. And if we can improve that in any way, then I think we should do it.
