SPECIAL GRANT GUIDELINES 2026

The QEII Foundation invites applications for the Rehabilitation Endowment Grant. Funds generated by the Rehabilitation Endowment are available annually.

Grants will be awarded for special project funding based on the following:

Eligibility

Applications are invited from individuals or groups who work in the Rehabilitation Program associated with one of the four subprograms:

  • Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), including Stroke and Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Spinal Cord Injury/Neuro-Rehabilitation Program
  • Musculoskeletal and Amputee Program
  • Assistive Technology Program at the QEII

Criteria

Grants will be considered for initiatives that enhance awareness, deepen understanding, and promote excellence in rehabilitation.

  • All grant applications must have written approval from all affected managers.
  • All requests for equipment must receive approval from BIOMED before submission.
  • The three categories for this grant, which are of equal importance are:
  1. Patient Care: Proposals will be considered that advance clinical care for patients in the Rehabilitation Program. Proposals may include and are not limited to the following:
    • Innovations in patient care
    • Team development
    • Infrastructure to support excellence in patient care
  2. Educational: Proposals may include and are not limited to the following:
    • Educational initiatives and events (speaker or conference)
    • Clinical studentships (up to 13 weeks at rates comparable to those approved by CIHR)
    • Educational materials for patients/families and/or staff
  3. Research: Proposals may include and are not limited to the following:
    • Research studentships (up to 13 weeks at rates approved by CIHR)
    • Operating or equipment costs for projects supervised by staff of the Rehabilitation Program

Funding Terms

  • Grants will be awarded based on the adjudication committee’s recommendation.
  • Funds are for one year and are not renewable.
  • Grants must be accepted as awarded and costs incurred over the grant amount will be billed to the department cost centre.

2025 Rehabilitation Program Endowment Grant

Congratulations to the recipients of the Rehabilitation Endowment Grants for 2025. The QEII Foundation holds the Rehabilitation Endowment Grant that generates income annually.  Since the inception of the Endowment 28 years ago, the QEII Foundation has granted over $893,969 for special projects.

An adjudication committee consisting of Rehabilitation Program and QEII Foundation representatives reviewed seven proposals this year awarding $34,839 for the following projects.
