The QEII Foundation is thrilled to announce that we’re an official Community Partner with Halifax Tides FC for their inaugural 2025 season!
As part of this exciting partnership, Halifax Tides FC will be supporting women’s health care at the QEII Health Sciences Centre and throughout the province through their 50/50 draws.
It’s just one of the ways that we’re proud to rise up for women’s health together – fueling the most innovative and personalized care and services for the Atlantic Canadian women who rely on the region’s largest and most specialized adult hospital. In fact, funds raised by Halifax Tides FC in support of the QEII Foundation will help fund a new surgical robot that will allow more individuals to undergo robot-assisted surgeries for gynecological cancers and conditions.
According to QEII experts, this robotics technology is a game-changer for treating certain endometrial and cervical cancers. With enhanced dexterity, control and 3D visualization, robotic-assisted procedures allow for greater surgical precision and less impact on surrounding healthy tissue. However, due to growing demand, timely access for women — and the ability to expand robotic surgery to other gynecological conditions — remains limited.
With the support of community partners and donors, like Halifax Tides FC, the QEII Foundation is on a mission to change that. Their generosity will help increase access to surgical robotics for those living with gynecological cancers and pre-cancerous conditions, along with expanding to other vital care areas like thoracic and colorectal surgery that directly impact female patients.
It’s a fitting area of focus for Halifax’s first professional women's soccer club.
“From day one, our club has been about more than just soccer,” says Val Malone, President of Halifax Tides FC. “We’re here to create lasting impact in our community, and we’re proud to partner with the QEII Foundation to support women’s health care across our region. It’s about leveling the playing field — not just in sport, but in health, opportunity, and access to the care women deserve.”
The QEII Health Sciences Centre is home to many of the province’s most advanced services tailored specifically for women, including the majority of Nova Scotia’s women’s cancer care, the Maritime Heart Centre Women’s Heart Health Clinic — the only clinic of its kind in Atlantic Canada — and the Reproductive Options and Services (ROSE) Clinic, which provides comprehensive reproductive and sexual health care.
“We’re incredibly proud to partner with Halifax Tides FC for their first season,” says Susan Mullin, President and CEO of the QEII Foundation. “I truly believe that a professional women’s sports team in Halifax is a powerful symbol for women and girls. I was thrilled when the team was announced — and I can’t wait to see what we’ll achieve together for women’s health. This partnership is about championing equity and bringing life-changing surgical robotics to more women facing gynecological cancers and complex conditions. With Halifax Tides FC, we’re building a healthier future — one with greater access, precision and hope.”
This season, Halifax Tides FC is not only making waves in Atlantic Canada’s sports scene — they’re helping us transform the future of health care for women across the region. In recognition of this partnership and their commitment to advancing women’s health, you’ll see the QEII Foundation — and the faces of some of the QEII’s boldest innovators and trailblazers in women’s medicine — featured loud and proud, on and off the pitch. Nova Scotia Health staff can also score discounted tickets to any Halifax Tides home games, all season long. Let’s go Tides!
