    Expanding access to critical diagnostic imaging technology for patients during their rehabilitation journey.

Each year, more than 500 patients spend weeks to months at the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation and Arthritis Centre (NSRAC) at the QEII, relearning and regaining skills and mobility following life-altering medical events like a stroke, spinal cord injury or amputation. With donor support, acquiring new cutting-edge diagnostic imaging technology will transform care for patients during their rehab journey.

WHY YOU'RE NEEDED
ADVANCING TECHNOLOGY AND ACCESS TO CARE

Today, there is an opportunity to bring a new X-ray system — the Precision 180 Fluoroscopy System — to NSRAC, ensuring patients have on-site access to critical technology that advances their treatment and care.

NSRAC has been without an on-site X-ray system since 2019, which means one to six patients are transported daily to the Victoria General (VG) site to undergo procedures. The result is that patients spend less time in rehabilitation therapy, lost time for healthcare professionals transporting patients and increased wait lists and wait times for diagnostic imaging at the VG site.

With a $1.1-million project goal, a new Fluoroscopy system will reduce wait times, enhance patient comfort and create system-wide efficiencies with a far-reaching impact on healthcare delivery. As part of the QEII Foundation’s $100-million We Are campaign, acquiring this new technology will transform care for patients.

WHAT YOU WILL MAKE POSSIBLE

Fluoroscopy is a diagnostic imaging technology that allows for an area of the body to be captured in motion, rather than as a still, snapshot image. With robotic arms that move scanners around a patient to get the most precise image, less movement is required by a patient, helping to increase their comfort and image quality.

Help patients focus on what’s most important: Rehabilitation care is a long journey, with patients receiving intensive therapy for up to three hours daily. On-site access to a Fluoroscopy system will provide more efficient and comfortable care, reducing transfer times, which can cut into necessary therapy time and extend a patient's stay at NSRAC.

Reduce wait times and wait lists: Adding a new Fluoroscopy system at NSRAC will provide built-in redundancies, ensuring more patients can be scanned daily, helping to reduce wait times and wait lists for diagnostic imaging at the QEII. Approximately 87 more patients can be scanned weekly once the Fluoroscopy system is in place.
