Each day, an average of over 6,600 individuals connect to QEII WiFi thanks to donor generosity.

It’s no secret that visits to the QEII Health Sciences Centre are often accompanied by feelings of uncertainty and grief. We know that when times get tough, we reach out to loved ones to get support, give updates and keep lines of communication open.

That’s why in December 2013, we launched the first phase of QEII WiFi where we invested in modern technology to implement a wireless internet connection throughout the QEII's 10 buildings and two sites, to connect you when it matters most.

Connecting patients back home

After immigrating to Canada in May 2016, Salih relies on the power of technology to stay in close contact with his family and friends still living in Syria. Paralyzed from the waist-down, Salih is receiving physiotherapy treatment at the QEII’s Nova Scotia Rehabilitation & Arthritis Centre to help rebuild his strength.

QEII WiFi allows Salih to connect with his family each day using FaceTime and instant messaging, as well as follow news and updates in his home country of Syria. The unrestricted service also plays a key role in Salih’s care while he is learning English. When his translator is unavailable, both Salih and rehabilitation staff use Google Translate and other translation apps to communicate with one another. According to Salih, this is especially helpful during the evening when his daily translator, Hissan, has left for the day.
