Each year, more than 500 patients spend weeks to months at the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation and Arthritis Centre (NSRAC) at the QEII, relearning and regaining skills and mobility following life-altering medical events like a stroke, spinal cord injury or amputation. With donor support, acquiring new cutting-edge diagnostic imaging technology will transform care for patients during their rehab journey.

WHAT YOU WILL MAKE POSSIBLE

Fluoroscopy is a diagnostic imaging technology that allows for an area of the body to be captured in motion, rather than as a still, snapshot image. With robotic arms that move scanners around a patient to get the most precise image, less movement is required by a patient, helping to increase their comfort and image quality.

Help patients focus on what’s most important: Rehabilitation care is a long journey, with patients receiving intensive therapy for up to three hours daily. On-site access to a Fluoroscopy system will provide more efficient and comfortable care, reducing transfer times, which can cut into necessary therapy time and extend a patient's stay at NSRAC.

Reduce wait times and wait lists: Adding a new Fluoroscopy system at NSRAC will provide built-in redundancies, ensuring more patients can be scanned daily, helping to reduce wait times and wait lists for diagnostic imaging at the QEII. Approximately 87 more patients can be scanned weekly once the Fluoroscopy system is in place.
