Digital Radiography Unit

The Nova Scotia Rehabilitation and Arthritis Centre (NSRAC) at the QEII — the province’s only specialized rehabilitation centre — is where patients regain their skills and independence following a life-altering medical event. Access to the most advanced spaces and technology is critical to their progress. Now, NSRAC has new technology that will support patients during their rehabilitation journey: a Digital Radiography Unit.

Fully funded by the collective efforts of QEII Foundation donors, this technology will enable more patients to receive scans sooner, helping to reduce wait times and address wait lists. All while providing valuable learning opportunities for the next generation of medical technologists training at Dalhousie University.

As part of our We Are campaign, acquiring the Digital Radiography Unit delivers on four campaign pillars: increasing access to care, reducing wait times, introducing new technology, and recruiting and retaining top medical talent.

A NEW SPACE FOR PATIENTS AND LEARNERS

The Digital Radiography Unit will be part of a new simulation space at NSRAC, designed for patient care and training. Access to this learning environment allows students to train on the most advanced technology they will use in clinical practice while working directly with patients. This type of hands-on learning experience will create efficiencies in the healthcare system, allowing more patients to receive daily scans. 

In collaboration with Dalhousie University, acquiring the Digital Radiography Unit will enable more students to start their training earlier. As of September 2023, Dalhousie’s Faculty of Health increased the number of seats in its Radiological Technology program by 50 per cent – ensuring more healthcare professionals are trained sooner. A prime example of how QEII donors are responding to the needs and opportunities in health care today.
